Sleep Care focuses on disorders of sleep. The most common disorder is sleep apnea, a condition in which a person’s breathing stops and starts many times during sleep. These interruptions in breathing disturb the four stages of sleep necessary to rejuvenate the body and mind, and cause daytime fatigue, morning headaches and other unpleasant effects. The interruptions in oxygen to the heart and brain can significantly increase a person’s risk of heart disease (particularly coronary artery disease and heart failure), high blood pressure (hypertension) and stroke.

Licking Memorial Health Systems (LMHS) offers the services of a comprehensive Sleep Laboratory. Sleep Care at Licking Memorial is nationally accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) as a full service sleep laboratory. Patients are evaluated for a variety of sleep and breathing disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), snoring, restless leg syndrome (RLS), insomnia and narcolepsy. If indicated for diagnosis, patients are then scheduled for an overnight sleep study. LMHS uses the services of Sleep Care, Inc. to provide overnight sleep studies.
