The LMH Emergency Department (ED) provides our community with comprehensive emergent and urgent care. It is our goal to assess, stabilize and treat patients quickly and effectively. Highly skilled, board-certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, paramedics, technicians, clerks and registrars staff the ED. Our professional staff possesses credentials in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and many are also certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Our ED staff performs an evaluation to determine the patient’s priority of treatment. Vital signs and a brief medical history will be taken during this process. Triage ensures that patients with life-threatening conditions receive immediate care. Those with less serious illnesses and injuries will be seen in a timely manner in order of the most serious to the least serious. Patients should not eat or drink anything while waiting, doing so may delay treatment and/or affect test results.

More than 50,000 patients visit the LMH ED annually. Of these visits, more than 10,000 are pediatric patients. In order to better serve our community, a pediatrician is available in the ED from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. during the week and 24 hours a day during the weekend.
