Licking Memorial Hospital (LMH) Laboratory offers a full complement of Clinical Laboratory and Pathology services based on needs assessment to the patients and medical staff of Licking Memorial Health Systems (LMHS) and its clients. The test results used in an individual's care are definitive. The Clinical Laboratory maintains a staff of qualified Pathologists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Histotechnologists, Histotechnicians, Cytologists and Phlebotomists on a 24-hour per day basis. The services provided include, but are not limited to, the following: Licking Memorial Hospital and satellite locations: Downtown Newark, Tamarack and Pataskala offer patients laboratory collection services without an appointment; however, patients will be required to have a signed order from their physician. Patients should also present their insurance information.

Please note
Some tests may only be collected on certain days and times at the main hospital laboratory (i.e. 3-hour glucose tolerance, ACTH, and semen analysis tests). Please contact the Laboratory for specific information.
  • Blood Bank—performs typing and compatibility testing and supplies blood for transfusion.
  • Chemistry—provides a variety of lab tests on blood and urine.
  • Genetics Navigation—provides information about hereditary cancer and genetic testing to healthcare providers, patients, and the public.  Uses genetic cancer risk assessments to assist medical providers in early identification of individuals at high risk of developing cancer. 
  • Hematology/Urinalysis—provides blood counts, coagulation tests and other procedures.
  • Pathology—full-time pathologists are on staff to diagnose biopsies, pap tests or other cytology, provide laboratory oversight, and provide clinical laboratory consultation to the medical staff.
  • Histology/Cytology—processes tissue and fluid specimens to be examined by pathologists for abnormalities, such as malignancies.
  • Microbiology/Serology—performs bacterial identification and determines sensitivities to antibiotics.
  • Molecular— provides the identification of organisms and the detection of genetic mutations by DNA/RNA assays.
  • Phlebotomy—obtains specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture for inpatients and outpatients, and processes all collected Laboratory specimens.
  • Point of Care—reviews and monitors testing, training personnel and provides consultation for all laboratory testing done by Licking Memorial Health Systems, but outside of the LMH Laboratory.

Service Information
A physician's order is required at the time of registration. Please report to the Outpatient Registration area when arriving at LMH for your laboratory test. After the registration staff has obtained the necessary information, you will be directed to the adjacent Outpatient Laboratory. A Laboratory phlebotomist will then greet you and proceed with your specimen collection.
