Outpatient comprehensive rehabilitation
For patients who need continued therapy after they are dismissed from the Hospital. Our Outpatient Comprehensive Rehabilitation team can offer multiple types of therapy and consists of physical, occupational and speech therapists and social workers. 

Inpatient rehabilitation service
A doctor may ask a therapist from physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy to come to a patient’s Hospital room and begin work right at the bedside.
Types of services that rehabilitation therapists provide right in the Hospital include:
  • Instruction and practice on safe transfer in and out of bed, a chair or wheelchair
  • Proper fit and practice on how to correctly use a walker or crutches
  • Identification of assistive devices that will help with activities of daily living
  • Exercise
  • Care of wounds
  • Instruction and practice dressing and bathing
Physical therapy
Licking Memorial physical therapists create individualized exercise programs, manual therapy and other approaches, to increase strength and mobility and maximizing functioning. Physical therapy can be used to treat:

Licking Memorial Hospital Occupational Therapists have specialized training in the treatment of hands, arm, shoulder and elbow in order to treat patients with:

  • Tendon and nerve injuries
  • Impingement syndrome
Speech and language services
Speech and language therapy can help those who are experiencing difficulty swallowing as well as those with disorders such as stuttering, delayed language or voice problems.
Services include assistance for individuals with communication difficulty resulting from:
Stroke, brain injury or other illness and injury that impair attention, memory, reasoning and judgment
  • Aphasia involving the loss of ability to speak or understand speech
  • Laryngectomy
  • Motor speech disorders that make articulation and intelligible speech difficult
  • Stuttering
  • Swallowing difficulty
Pediatric services for children with impaired or delayed speech, language and learning skills are also available. Children as young as 18 months can benefit from speech therapy when the main concern is speech and language development.
Audiology services to assess hearing loss are available through Licking Memorial Otolaryngology (Ear Nose and Throat Specialists).
